The Grease Guarde Approach
At Grease Guarde, we like to say we use a "Mother Nature" approach to solving grease problems. We utilize what is known as bio-remediation, which simply means
using biological (living organisms) to clean up pollutants and the environment.
The living organisms we use to solve grease trap problems come in the form of bacteria
that break down the grease and food wastes in grease traps. The bacteria that
we use must meed the following characteristics:
- Digest waste quickly and completely, without producing significant odors or noxious
gas.
- Consume (digest) a wide variety of organic material that are present in wastes.
- Grow and reproduce quickly and readily in the environmental conditions found in
waste disposal systems.
- Not cause any disease in man or animals - they must be "nonpathogenic" and do
not produce foul odors or gas as they digest waste.
Using the latest in technology is only one part of the unique approach that Grease
Guarde provides for our customers. Our trained service technicians have the
knowledge and equipment necessary to maintain grease trap environments that maximize
bacterial digestion and minimize problems. The ideal environment for effective
natural management of a grease trap includes:
- Dissolved oxygen (for aerobic type bacteria that require it) in sufficent quantities
- A water medium containing food (organic waste) for the bacteria to eat
- Moderate temperatures, between 50° F and 110° F
- Proper pH - not too acid nor too alkaline - between 6 & 9 on the pH scale
is ideal.
These conditions are not normal in grease traps. Therefore, we have bred our
bacteria strains to tolerate higher temps (up to 155° F) and wider swings in
pH (4 to 11). We also enhance the oxygen content in the water and add nutrients
for the bacteria. When your grease trap is managed by Grease Guard, our service
technicians will:
- Analyze the trap every 28 days utilizing our experience teamed with the latest
testing equipment
- Maintain the proper balance of bacteria, nutrients, and water quality to keep
the grease trap working properly
- Document the condition of the grease trap and report to the regulatory agency
as well as the customer
- Meet with the customer to review any problems or concerns
Why not just pump my grease trap?
- Pump trucks simply move the grease from one point to another
- Pumping of grease traps can cause traffic congestion and delays
- Large trucks emit large volumes of harmful "greenhouse" gases into the atmosphere
- Pumping of grease trap can create odors in the kitchen and restaurant
- Pumping costs are rising at an alarming rate due to fuel prices and dumping fees
- Pumping does not guarantee the proper operation of the grease trap
Grease Guarde makes it easy for our customers to know that their grease trap is
not only being managed at the highest quality level, but that it is being done in
an environmentally friendly way.
