The Grease Guarde Approach
At Grease Guarde, we often use a "Mother Nature" approach to solving fats, oils,
and grease problems. We utilize what is known as bio-remediation, which simply
means using biologics (living organisms) to clean up pollutants and the environment.
The living organisms we use against FOG problems come in the form of bacteria that
break down the grease and food wastes in lift stations, collection system lines,
aeration basins, and grease traps. The bacteria that we use must meet the following
characteristics:
- Digest waste quickly and completely, without producing significant odors or noxious
gas.
- Consume (digest) a wide variety of organic material that are present in common
wastes.
- Grow and reproduce quickly and readily in the environmental conditions found in
waste disposal systems.
- Not cause any disease in man or animals - they must be "nonpathogenic" and do
not produce foul odors or gas as they digest waste.
Using the latest in technology is only one part of the unique approach that Grease
Guarde provides for our customers. Our trained service technicians have the
knowledge and equipment necessary to maintain environments that maximize bacterial
digestion and minimize problems. The ideal environment for effective natural
management of FOG and related problems includes:
- Dissolved oxygen (for aerobic type bacteria that require it) in sufficient quantities
- A water medium containing food (organic waste) for the bacteria to eat
- Moderate temperatures, between 50° F and 110° F
- Proper pH - not too acid nor too alkaline - between 6 & 9 on the pH scale
is ideal.
These conditions are not normal in most sources that load into collection systems.
Therefore, we have bred our bacteria strains to tolerate higher temps (up to 155°
F) and wider swings in pH (4 to 11). We also enhance the oxygen content in
the water and add nutrients for the bacteria. During typical management by
Grease Guard, our service technicians will:
- Analyze the application point every 28 days utilizing our experience teamed with
the latest testing equipment
- Determine the proper balance of bacteria, nutrients, and water quality to keep
the application working properly
- Document the condition of the application and report to the regulatory agency
as well as the customer
- Meet with the customer to review any problems or concerns
Why not just pump, jet or process the FOG components?
- Pump trucks simply move the grease from one point to another
- Pumping and in-depth maintenance can cause traffic congestion and delays
- Large trucks emit large volumes of harmful "greenhouse" gases into the atmosphere
- Pumping almost always creates odors in and around the maintenance area
- Pumping and plumbing costs are rising at an alarming rate due to fuel prices and
dumping fees
Grease Guarde makes it easy for our customers to know that their grease problem
